We left Nevada for the Redwoods with no intent of stopping anywhere in-between. We were full-send for the California coast. As we drove, we saw another National Park up ahead on the map--Lassen Volcanic National Park. Neither of us had ever heard of it. We joked about making a pit stop there just to up our National Park count. Our route to Redwoods eventually took us right by Lassen's entrance, and we decided the temptation to take a detour was too much to resist.
Our exploration of Lassen was cursory at best, but it was still a worthwhile stop. There are worse places than a National Park to break from a drive and stretch your legs. Lassen left both of us wanting to come back to explore the park more fully. Here are a few pictures from our drive through the park.

Do Pinecones really get this big? |

the lake water was surprisingly warm--probably something to do with it being a 'volcanic' National Park |
