Crater Lake opened up while we were already on the trip, but once we saw the news, we knew we couldn't let it pass us by. While surprisingly cold and snowy (well, surprising unless you look at the altitude we were at), Crater Lake was nonetheless breathtaking. We spent some time hiking around the rim, and then headed down the PCT (Pacific Crest Trail) to backpack for the night.

Check out this random volcano just casually in the middle of the lake |

Since the lake is only filled by rainwater and snowmelt (as opposed to being fed from rivers or streams), it ends up being INCREDIBLY clear (like, see down over 100 feet clear), and so so blue when seen from further away |
|
The lake is also super deep--it's the deepest lake in the US, and 9th deepest in the world, hitting just about 2000 feet. |

There's definitely a lake monster down here somewhere. |

Even from as high as we were, you can see the lake's clarity at the edges |
